The Society for Asian Music is delighted to announce Prof. Mark Slobin as Keynote Speaker for its 2025 General Membership Business Meeting, which will be held during the SEM 2025 Annual Conference in Atlanta, GA, from October 23–26, 2025. More details will follow on this site.

Mark Slobin is the Winslow-Kaplan Professor of Music Emeritus at Wesleyan University. He has published widely on the musics of Afghanistan, Central Asia, Eastern European Jewish communities, and America, as well as on film and ethnomusicological theory. He is a recipient of the ASCAP-Deems Taylor Award for two publications: Fiddler on the Move: Exploring the Klezmer World and Tenement Songs: Popular Music of the Jewish Immigrants. A past president of the Society for Asian Music and the Society for Ethnomusicology, he retired from Wesleyan University in 2016.
